AI Voice Agent vs Phone Menu
A phone menu is a filter. An AI voice agent is a conversation with an outcome. For businesses whose callers want to book something or ask one clear question, the difference shows up immediately in abandoned calls.
Filters lose the enquiry
Menus were designed for switchboards, not for enquiries that need qualifying. Callers with a simple request still have to work through options that were never written for them.
- Options rarely match how callers describe their problem
- Longer menus mean more abandonment
- No enquiry detail is captured before the transfer
- After hours, the menu usually ends in voicemail
Handle the call, then route what is left
Vocanta answers, understands the enquiry, and either completes it or hands it over with the context already gathered.
- Step 01Greet and ask
The caller says what they need in their own words.
- Step 02Qualify
Your follow-up questions for that enquiry type.
- Step 03Book, capture or transfer
A defined outcome for every call.
- Step 04Record
Details, reason and outcome, written down.
What you get
No trees, no key presses, no dead ends.
Bookings and qualified enquiries can be finished on the call.
The team member picks up already informed.
Calls are handled rather than parked in voicemail.
You learn what callers actually ask for.
Anything out of scope follows a documented path.
Where businesses use it
- Booking-led businesses with high call volume
- Lines where callers regularly choose the wrong option
- Businesses running ads that generate phone enquiries
- Multi-location routing
- Replacing voicemail-only out-of-hours cover
AI answers first. People take over when it matters.
Vocanta is not designed to replace your team. You decide which situations must reach a person — and when a caller asks for one, or the enquiry falls outside the configured scope, the agent says so plainly and follows your escalation rule: a transfer, a message with a callback time, or an agreed follow-up. The reason for every escalation is recorded.
How we handle your call dataQuestions we get asked
Do callers know they are speaking to AI?
Where required by law the agent identifies itself as AI, and you can choose to disclose it on every call. We do not recommend presenting the agent as a human being.
Can the AI transfer a call to a person?
Yes. You decide which situations need a human. When one of those comes up — or when a caller asks for a person — Vocanta transfers the call to the right team member, takes a message with a callback time, or agrees a follow-up, and records the reason for the escalation so whoever picks it up has the context.
How quickly can we go live?
Setup starts with a short call to agree which calls Vocanta answers, the questions it asks, and where each outcome should go. You then choose the voice in the Voice Studio and we test the flow on your own example enquiries. Most businesses are answering live calls within a few working days, with no engineering work needed from your side.
How much does it cost?
Plans start at £250 per month and are priced by the amount of call time you need rather than by seat, billed monthly or annually with a 20% saving on annual billing. Extra call time can be added at any point and you can change plan monthly.
